Burger and Viljoen clinch 6x6x6

Walvis Bay Golf News

16 March 2020 | Sports

One would think that the format of six better ball, six combined and six multiplier scores (to be determined after each hole) is not too difficult, but still it continues to cloud judgement.

The trick is to know when to take the multiplier towards the end when the game is on, so too the pressure. But hopefully next year they would have learnt how to do so.

But, just as there were those who could not get it right, there were a few teams who did: In the long run, the ESU 6x6x6 Days was won by Andre Burger and Rocco Viljoen on a well-calculated 81 points.

Koot Potgieter and Nardo Sardinha followed in second place on 80 points ahead of Jakkie de Witt and Shane Westerdale on 79 points, holding off Piet van Niekerk and Herman Neethling.

Thanks to Jannie Brits for presenting the prizes and confirming that they will be back next year.

It would be amiss if we did not report on an “Albatross” recorded on the day. Yes, a two club on a par 5. Young Willie Els hit a driver and a 7 iron, and then picked his ball out of the hole. Well done Willie! You will definitely remember those two shots for a very long time.

This coming week is the Best Drive competition, which is a better ball, with a little twist. Keep watching for the list on the board, to get the twist.

For the second week, the member’s draw of N$500 was won by Wouter van Wijk. Easy money and indeed needed, more so after not stopping at a stop street!

The Jolly Joker is still on the loose and evades capture. Pierre le Roux drew the king of diamonds to ensure that the Joker lives on and the pool of last week, N$136 800 ads up.

To the dismay of the committee, the MC on the night promised that this coming Friday 20th, the pool will be guaranteed at a staggering N$150 000. Yes, N$150 000 is up for grabs! And with only 14 cards and the Joker still left in the pack, it is getting close.

The bar will be closed on Friday 10 April as it is Good Friday, but will be open for the rest of the weekend.

The calendar for the next few weeks is as follows:
• 28 March KWV/CIC
• 4 April Fox Designs Medal
• 11 April Club Comp.
