’n Gedeelte van ’n huis op Hentiesbaai is deur ’n brand verwoes.

’n Motorhuis wat omskep is in ’n leefarea waarin Briggite Gertze gewoon het, het Donderdag (27 Februarie) op die kusdorp afgebrand.

“’n Mens hoor maar van hierdie dinge en jy sien altyd hoe ander mense daarmee moet leef. Jy dink nooit jy sal aan die ontvangkant wees nie,” het ’n geskokte Gertze gese.

Dit is onbekend presies hoe laat die brand ontstaan het, hoewel ’n beampte van Lifelink nooddienste bevestig het hulle het om 17:16 die noodoproep ontvang.

“Die motorhuis wat afgebrand het, is in ’n woonstel omskep,” het een van die nooddienspersoneel wat anoniem wou bly, gesê.

Gertze was tydens die voorval by die motorwassery waar sy werk. Haar seun is tans besig met studies aan die Namibië Instituut van Mynbou en Tegnologie (NIMT) en was nie by die huis toe die brand ontsaan nie.

Gertze het gesê sy het die huis in 2001 gekoop en dat daar nog nooit elektriese probleme was nie.

“Ek kan nie verstaan hoe die brand begin het nie.”

Sedert die voorval het die gemeenskap van Hentiesbaai hulle oor Gertze ontferm. Hoewel verskeie individue na haar uitgereik het, is Gertze nog steeds in die nood.

“Ek het net die klere aan my lyf. My dokumente en alles was binne die vertrek wat afgebrand het.”

Die brand het ook op ’n moelike tyd in Gertze se lewe gekom, aangesien ’n geliefde van haar se begrafnis hierdie naweek plaasvind.

Dit is egter nie net Gertze wat deur die brand geraak is nie. Volgens haar was sy besig was om klere en ander items in te samel vir ’n behoeftige gemeenskaplid toe die brand haar blyplek vernietig het.
