Local entrepreneurs were boosted through a car boot sale that took place outside Hotel Prinzessin Rupprecht recently.
One of the exhibitors, Katrina Garises, owns Dantago Arts and Crafts Store – a tourism shop where she sells hand-made goods in the DRC informal settlement.
Garises expressed her gratitude for the platform to promote and sell her goods.
“These car boot sales help our businesses because we are making money, even if it is not that much.”
Her business closed last year due to the impact of Covid-19.
“I also used to take tourists to the DRC informal settlement so that they could tour the area. Now that Covid restrictions are more relaxed, I am here trying to sell my goods because we have to start somewhere,” Garises said.
According to event organiser Sammy Neumann, the event was a success due to the number of people who booked stalls.
“In future I will try and get more people to come. The exhibitors are quite happy. I booked a full house of stalls, which are 24 in total.”
A wide variety of goods from food and second hand clothing to arts and crafts were sold at affordable prices from the boots of participating exhibitors.
All Covid restrictions were upheld throughout the event.
The next Hotel Prinzessin Rupprecht car boot sale is expected to take place in two months.
