The body of a male was discovered on the beach in the vicinity of Langstrand on Wednesday morning.

He was identified as Mac Mouton (60) from Narraville, Walvis Bay.

His next of kin were informed and investigation continues said deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, the regional crime coordinator.

According to Iikuyu the body was discovered by a friend of the deceased at around 08:00.

“Information on hand indicates that the deceased went fishing with three friends on Tuesday. When the friends left at about 22:00 the deceased allegedly insisted that he was going to continue fishing. They departed and went to overnight at the toilets next to the tidal pool. When they woke up this morning, they realised that the deceased did not join them where they slept. One of them went to check on him and discovered the body.”

Iikuyu said that preliminary indications show the deceased could have drowned.

“No foul play is suspected so far. The body was taken to Walvis Bay police mortuary for a post-mortem to be conducted and to determine the cause of death.”
