Die Namibiese Bloedoortappingsdiens (NamBTS) benodig voor die einde van die maand minstens 2 000 skenkings om bestaande voorraad aan te vul.

’n Noemenswaardige daling in skenkings vind gewoonlik tussen Kersfees en Nuwejaar asook aan die begin van die skooljaar plaas omdat gereelde skenkers met vakansie gaan. Nood neem egter nooit ‘n blaaskans nie.

Dus moedig die NamBTS skenkers aan om die onbaatsugtige daad met nuwe ywer aan te pak. Daar is veral ‘n ernstige tekort aan groep O-bloed.

“Die voorraad is baie min,” het NamBTS se woordvoerder, me. Zita Tobin, gesê. “Die norm is om ses dae of meer se voorraad te hê, maar ons het tans net twee dae se voorraad vir die O-groep. Die voorraadvlakke van bloedgroepe A, B en AB is steeds voldoende.”

NamBTS rantsoeneer volgens Tobin tans bloedvoorraad sodat dit so lank as moontlik sal hou.

“Daar was nog nooit ’n beter tyd om te skenk nie,” het sy gesê. “Dit neem net ongeveer 30 minute om iemand anders se lewe te red.”

Voornemende skenkers kan Maandae NamBTS se Swakopmund-kantoor (Lüderitzstraat 4) besoek of die sentrum by Walvisbaai se Welwitschia Medi Park (13de Straat 55).

Skenkers moet 16 jaar of ouer wees en meer as 50 kg weeg.
