#BeFree Movement to host interactive dialogue

Tackling youth issues

08 April 2021 | Local News

The #BeFree Movement is set to host a youth “#BeFree Skrr Skrr” event at Swakopmund’s Infinity Lounge on Friday.

The event is aimed at creating a platform where young people from the community can engage on issues affecting them. It is understood that the First Lady of Namibia, Monica Geingos, will be present at the event.

The interactive dialogue will particularly dissect how the occurrence of suicide has roots in other social issues such a poverty, unemployment and mental health matters.

The discussion will also focus on the importance of parental involvement in young peoples’ lives and how parents talking openly to their teenagers about sex and the safety aspect thereof can reduce not only the occurrence of teenage pregnancies, but also contain the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Other topics include the abuse of drugs and mental health challenges as well as the importance of speaking out or seeking help in a bid to reduce suicides.

#BeFree is a non-judgmental, youth-focused dialogue platform which has served as a leading facilitator of difficult conversations, information sharing and linking young people to services.

The movement has assembled diverse voices and interests to drive progress for all, with a particular focus on the issues which affect the youth most.
