Athletics season promises great action

The athletics season is in full swing along the coast and right around the corner is the Zonal athletics meet.

This athletics competition which is set to take place on Saturday, at the Vineta Sports Stadium will see over 500 athletes compete in track and field items.

Athletes competing against each other will hail from all primary and secondary schools in Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Utuseb, Henties Bay and Arandis.

The competition is set to start from 07:30 and will conclude later the day at 18:00. The athletes competing are between the age groups of under 13 to under 19.

The highlight of this competition is always the 100 metre and 200 metre events of the boys and girls under 19, which takes place towards the end of the day.

During this competition the best athletes of the day will also be chosen to compete at the regional athletics meet. This competition is set to take place 22 February in Swakopmund also at the Vineta Sports Stadium.

In addition, the Namibia Private Schools Organisation (NAPSO) Coca-Cola Wimpy athletics competition hosted by Pro-Ed academy will see about 22 private schools competing against each other on 23 and 24 March at the Vineta Sports Stadium in Swakopmund.

The national athletics competition is slated for 18 April.
