Deriou Benson; Councillor; “…applications close on 30 June 2021.”

Residents of the Walvis Bay urban constituency are encouraged to apply for the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which facilitates grants to small-scale community development projects.

Walvis Bay urban constituency councillor Deriou Benson said the objective is to assist and encourage self-reliance within local communities. It also demonstrates the interest of the regional council in the welfare and social development of the communities of the Erongo region.

“Priority will be given to projects that include significant community contributions and involvement. Grants will be considered for community members living in Walvis Bay urban constituency for more than two years and criteria set out in the application form,” Benson said.

Limited amounts of application forms are available and the application process closes on 30 June 2021.

Loans available

Erongo governor Neville Andre recently announced that local SME owners can apply for a loan to assist their business in navigating the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said the national as well as regional economy continues to be pummelled by the impact of the pandemic.

Finance minister Iipumbu Shiimi thus announced financial relief for Covid-19 affected SMEs through the Covid-19 SME Loan Scheme on 17 November 2020.

“The scheme, valued at N$500 million, is a government initiative in partnership with local commercial banks as well as the Bank of Namibia.”

The scheme is designed to assist SMEs that have been impacted by the restrictive measures put in place as a response to the pandemic.
