Another elderly woman attacked

Robbery attempts targeting elderly residents of Swakopmund have increased dramatically in the past few weeks.
According to the Swakopmund Neighbourhood Watch (SNW) the latest incident involves an elderly woman who was ambushed near her home.
According to SNW committee member Andre van Rensburg, they received a call on their emergency number that yet another elderly woman had been allegedly attacked by an unknown suspect.
The woman had allegedly been attacked while entering her garage at the complex she lives in at Libertina Amadhila Avenue.
“The suspect hid in one of the garages and waited for her to enter the garage before he made his move. He threw her on the ground and tried to tie her up with a piece of rope. But when she started screaming, the suspect fled, closing the garage door behind him,” Van Rensburg recounted.
Another resident heard the victim scream and rushed to her assistance
Nothing was taken during the incident.
Van Rensburg said that although police reservists and some members of the SNW arrived at the scene minutes after the incident, the suspect was nowhere to be found.
“We have a suspicion that the suspect operates in this specific area. We think he matches the description of a suspect who tried to break into a residence in Namib Street, Kramersdorf the previous day,” Van Rensburg said.
He added that these incidents are without a doubt on the increase and asked community members to look out for the elderly.
Separate robbery incidents involving elderly residents in Kramersdorf were also reported to the SNW on 21 and 29 April, respectively.
