Another Covid death reported in Walvis Bay

29 July 2020 | Health

The minister of health Dr. Kalumbi Shangula announced that another Covid-19 related death occurred in Walvis Bay.

He said that the deceased – a female (44) – presented to Walvis Bay state hospital on 21 July 2020 with symptoms consistent with Covid-19.

“She also had other chronic medical conditions and was tested on admission. The results returned positive. Her condition gradually deteriorated and we lost her on 28 July 2020,” said the minister.

In the past 24 hours, 527 Covid-19 test results were received.

“We have recorded 69 new positive cases of which 57 are in Walvis Bay, eight in Windhoek and one case each in Swakopmund, Usakos, Mariental and Engela. Of this number, 38 are male and 31 are female. Their ages range from 6 to 77 years. Contact tracing has been initiated.”

The minister also said he was very concerned about a growing number of positive cases that do not have known contacts with positive cases.

The case recorded in Usakos involves a female (57) and a contact to a confirmed case, while the case in Mariental involves a female (34) who works at a local filling station. She has no known contact with a confirmed case and does not have Covid-19 related symptoms and no travel history.

The case reported in Engela involves a female (30) who travelled from Walvis Bay on 15 July 2020. She had been in quarantine since the day of arrival and was reported by the community members to the authority.
