The four brand new Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes were for the first time since the commissioning of the New Container Terminal simultaneously operational on a same vessel recently.

“The 4500 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) capacity vessel Maersk Iyo had a call size of 909 moves, including discharge and load,” said Immanuel !Hanabeb the executive for commercial services at the Namibian Port Authority (Namport).

He explained that the significance of having all four cranes operational on one vessel simultaneously exponentially increases the moves per hour.

“This in turn speeds up the turnaround time of vessels, therefore shortening the stay along the quayside. This was indeed a proud moment for Namport, proving that we are capable of moving in same the league of our competitors.”
