Adri toor met koekversierings

Hierdie entrepreneur sê dit is haar doel om koekversiersels te skep wat mense só verstom dat hulle dit nie sal wil eet nie.

As jong meisie was Adri Myall (42) reeds dol daaroor om koeke te versier en het aandagtig gekyk hoe haar tannie Mienie en ouma Joyce blommerangskikkings en troukoeke gemaak het.

Haar belangstelling in die kuns van koekversiering (“toppers”) het egter eers in 2012 in alle erns posgevat toe sy Cake Boss op televisie begin kyk het.

“Voor dit was dit maar net ’n gespelery. Die program het my gemotiveer om meer kreatief te raak en dinge ernstig op te neem. Voorheen het ek meestal koekversierings as verjaardaggeskenke gemaak. Die persoonlikheid en belangstellings van elke persoon waarvoor ek een gemaak het, het my geïnspireer,” sê sy.

“Ek geniet dit om versierings met karakter en siel te maak. Ek is nie juis ingestel op blomme of alledaagse versierings vir troukoeke nie - ek hou eerder van interessante karakters wat bo-op verjaardagkoeke vertoon kan word. Ek het met miniatuur skubaduikers begin en gevorder tot ’n hoëhakskoen vir my niggie.”

Adri beskryf haarself as ’n perfeksionis en kunstenaar.

“Ek hou daarvan om in die fynste detail te gaan en spandeer ure daaraan om my versierings te skep. ’n Paar van my ‘toppers’ het al na Suid-Afrika en Zimbabwe gereis. ”

Sy meen mense besef nie altyd hoe lank dit vat om hierdie spesiale koekversiersels te maak nie.

“Elke ‘topper’ is uniek en ek leer elke keer iets nuut by. Die mooiste is om die opwinding en tevredenheid te sien op die gesigte van diegene wat die versierde koeke ontvang. Dit is my uiteindelike doel. Ek raak soms verlief op my figuurtjies en vind dit moeilik om hulle te laat gaan.”

Volgens Adri is daar gemengde waardering vir diegene wat koeke versier, veral in Swakopmund.

“Mense wil regtig lekker en mooi koeke hê, maar min is bereid om te betaal vir die ure se werk wat daaraan spandeer word. Hulle toon egter waardering en verbasing as hulle my versierings sien.

“Ek dink dit is ook een van die redes hoekom ek dit verkies om my produkte liewer as geskenke te maak. Ek sit baie liefde daarin om my versierings te skep,” het sy gesê.

Die kunstenaar wil graag grootmaat-koekversiersels maak en dit aan uitgesoekte winkels en by markte verkoop. Sy wil skeppings maak wat “te mooi is om te eet”.

Adri se boodskap aan diegene wat in die kuns belangstel: “Jy kan alles doen waarop jy jou visier instel. As jy ’n verskil kan maak in iemand anders se lewe, doen dit. Selfs al is dit deur ’n glimlag op hul gesig te sit of iets moois met jou Godgegewe talent te skep. Dit bring oomblikke wat gekoester kan word en ook mooi herinneringe. Jy kán ’n verskil maak. Sorg net dat dat dit goed en positief is.”

Adri het op Tsumeb grootgeword waar sy haar skoolloopbaan by die Laerskool Francis Galton begin het. Sy het in 1996 aan die Hoërskool Etosha gematrikuleer. Adri was eens ’n model en aspirant aktrise in Johannesburg. Sy het in haar matriekjaar die Mej. Tiener Namibië-titel gewen.
