Accident claims one life

Deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu confirmed that the accident occurred at 19:00, on the C14 Road in the vicinity of Dune 7.
The driver reportedly lost control of the Nissan Tida and it overturned in the vicinity of Dune 7, resulting in the death of one of the five passengers. They were on their way to Walvis Bay.
“A lady died while the driver and three other passengers sustained minor to serious injuries. The injured were taken to Welwitschia hospital in Walvis Bay by E-Med ambulance. The next of kin of the deceased were informed.”
Truck and train collide
A truck driver escaped unscathed after the truck he was driving collided with a train.
The collision happened at a crossing in the vicinity of Namport’s south gate at approximately 5:55.
Deputy commissioner Iikuyu confirmed the incident, saying that Jeffrey Hankuku (44), a Zambian national, was driving a truck that belongs to BHL Logistics.
“He offloaded copper. The brakes of the truck apparently failed due to the air pressure and he collided with an oncoming train. Hankuku was trapped inside the truck and was later rescued without any physical injuries. He was taken to Walvis Bay state hospital where he was treated for shock and admitted for further observation.”
