Accident at dumpsite claims life

11 July 2021 | Accidents

The police are investigating a reckless and or negligent driving and culpable homicide case after a person died in an accident at the Walvis Bay municipal dumpsite on Friday.

The commander of community affairs in the Erongo region, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, said that the deceased Ananias Kanisius (35) was ran over by a truck. “It is alleged that the deceased attempted to climb onto a truck belonging to Rent a Drum that came to off-load rubbish at the dumping site. He did so without the knowledge of the driver and in the process, slipped. The truck ran over him.”

According to Shapumba, the deceased was seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to Walvis Bay State Hospital for medical treatment.

“He succumbed to the injuries he sustained on the same day at around 23:30 at the said hospital. His next of kin have been informed and the police investigation continues.”
