Close to 96 000 samples tested

27 September 2020 | Health

The minister of health and social services Dr. Kalumbi Shangula announced 920 Covid test results were received from the laboratories.

Shangula said that of these 115 samples tested positive for the virus with 59 of the patients being males and 56 females.
The youngest patient is two months and the oldest is 75 years old.

The total number of active cases now stands at 2 137. Of the active cases, 14 (10 patients in the Khomas region and 4 patients in the Erongo region) are in severe or critical conditions.

The confirmed cases are distributed as follows: Oshikoto region 48 cases, Khomas 37, Erongo 14, Otjozondjupa 10, Hardap 3, Kavango East 2 and Zambezi region 1 case.

Namibia also recorded 27 new recoveries. This brings the total of Covid-19 recoveries to 8 776.

The recoveries were reported in the Hardap (9) region, Khomas (8), Zambezi (6), Karas (3) and Omaheke (1) regions.

The minister once again emphasised that an increasing number of cases are being in crowded in settings or facilities like hostels.

“Today we recorded a high number of 48 learners from a Senior Secondary School in Onandjokwe district, Oshikoto region testing positive for Covid-19. These are contacts of learners who tested positive at the same school earlier. We are also observing sporadic cases from different schools countrywide which indicates active transmission. Hence, strict measures are encouraged in schools to limit spread among learners,” said Sangula.
