Erongo Region

The regional crime coordinator, deputy commissioner Erastus Ikuyu confirmed via the weekly crime report that Henri Jaquez Louw (36) committed suicide during the early morning hours of Friday.

“It is alleged that the deceased had an argument with a family member. This occurred at the place of residence in Tulinawa, Swakopmund around 17:00 on Thursday afternoon,” said Iikuyu.

All seemed normal after the argument but on Friday morning (00:33) the deceased was discovered by a family member.

“Indications are that Louw committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope tied to a DSTV dish mounted on the wall of the house where he resided. A family member heard a sound, went to investigate and made the gruesome discovery.”

Iikuyu said that the deceased had left no suicide note and no foul play is suspected. The next of kin was informed.

The police is also investigating a case of attempted murder, housebreaking with intent to rape and rape in Kuisebmond.

“Between Friday night 22:00 and Saturday morning 02:00, the suspect (32) forced open the complainant’s house, strangled her until she became unconscious and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent,” said Iikuyu.

The suspect who is not known to the victim was arrested and made an appearance in the Walvis Bay magistrate’s court on Monday.

Another rape case was opened in Swakopmund on Saturday.

A 29 year old man allegedly raped a 19 year old girl at about 22:40 in the Mile 4 area.

“The suspect who is the uncle of the victim allegedly invited her to accompany him while they were partying at a house. He did so under the pretence that he wanted to fetch a smaller vehicle at his residence. When they arrived at his home, he allegedly told her that he wanted to sleep for few minutes and went to his bedroom. The victim followed him and pleaded with him to take her home. He grabbed her and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent,” said Iikuyu.

The suspect was arrested and appeared at the Swakopmund magistrates court on Monday. Investigations continue.
