A staff member of the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation’s (NBC) Erongo regional office in Swakopmund has tested positive for Covid-19.

NBC's chief commercial officer for commercial services, Umbi Karuaihe-Upi, confirmed that the regional office has been closed for the time being as a precautionary measure to ensure that more people are not infected.

“The entire staff is currently in self-isolation and will be tested soon. Just like all Covid-19 cases in Namibia, the relevant information has been forwarded to the ministry of health and social services,” she said.

Karuaihe-Upi said that the office will be sanitsed while the staff is placed in self-isolation. She could however not confirm for how long the office would remain closed.

She added that the health ministry will trace contacts the staff member (a woman) could possibly have had.
