From drives to putts

Three tournaments were recently concluded at Rössmund Golf Club.


The Betterball Stableford golf tournament sponsored by Standard Bank took place on 22 May and doubled as the third qualifier for the 2021 Windhoek Lager International Pairs.

During her short speech at the prize giving ceremony, Karin Lambrecht of Standard Bank, reiterated the commitment of the bank to all sporting codes and congratulated not only the winners but all the golfers for taking part and making the day a great success.

Results

1st Justine Shikulo/Theo Haimbondi 45pts, 2nd Achmet Abrahams/John Redman 43pts and 3rd Clive Lawrence/Mark Jacobs on 41pts winning a count out over John Horne/Tienie van Rensburg and George Murasiki/Stephan Johns. Johns recorded a hole in one on the twelfth hole on 13 May.

The international pairs qualifiers were Marco Swarts and Athol McLean.

Another tournament, sponsored by Thovo Therm, took place on Wednesday 26 May. The Wednesday field average was around 25 players, who are mostly regulars with a few extras tagging along.

Winners

18 holes: Clive Lawrence on 40pts and 9 holes Jockel Gruttemeyer took the front 9 with 19pts winning a count out over Stephan Fast whilst Achmet Abrahams had the Best Back 9 with 22pts.

Feeshing

Saturday, 29 May saw 36 golfers out for the monthly “feeshing” competition, sponsored by Pescanova/Novanam Fishing – Miguel.

The weather conditions were perfect for golf and this was well reflected in the scores.

There were also a number of two clubs recorded by Des Benson, Fritz Coetzee Jr, Douw van Wyk (2) as well as the club’s oldest teenager Graham Louw.

The overall medal winner was Bertie Saunderson with a well-played 68 nett.

The rest of the results were as follows:
A Division: Des Benson – 71 nett, B Division: Lukas Steven – 71 nett, C Division: Clive Lawrence – 76 nett and Ladies: Gaby Adams – 74 nett.
