Blue Waters set the pace in Coastal T20 race

Blue Waters I is currently at the top of the Coastal T20 cricket log at 6 points, having played four matches and recording three wins.

They are the Coastal T20 cricket league defending champions, having dethroned JCCA which previously managed to win the league five consecutive times.

However, the other six teams have only played two matches.

PEOPBCC I is placed second at 4 points ahead of Sparta I in third position, also at 4 points but with an inferior net run rate.
The focus now shifts to the Walvis Bay Salt Refiners tournament that takes place in the harbour town and Swakopmund from 23 to 25 September.


The match results for the weekend which produced 6 action packed games, are as follows

Saturday

Match 1

Blue Waters I defeated JCCA by 22 runs in a Coastal T20 league match played at the Walvis Bay Oval. Blue Waters scored 140 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. JCCA replied with 118 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.

Blue Waters won the toss, opted to bat first and scored 140 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Simon Shikongo was the big hitter, with 54 runs (including five 4’s and two 6’s) from 50 balls. His performance earned him the man of the match accolade. Mathews de Goveia also added 24 runs (including two 4’s) from 20 balls.

Levi Kamahunga was the best bowler for JCCA, with 2 wickets from 3 overs for 23 runs.

Roelof van Niekerk was the top run scorer for JCCA, with 48 runs (including four 4’s and two 6’s) from 39 balls, while Gerhard Lottering added 38 runs (two 4’s and three 6’s) from 25 balls.
John Calaca, Iwann van Staden and John-Eric Tierrrauch each took two wickets for Blue Waters.

Match 2

PEOBCC 2 defeated Sparta I bu 3 wickets.

Sparta won the toss and elected to bat first in the match played at the Sparta Recreational Club grounds.

Sparta scored 90 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 20 overs.

Johan Potgieter, with 23 runs (including two 4’s and one 6) from 32 balls, and Herman Karsten with 22 runs (including three 6’s) from 22 balls, were the best batsmen for Sparta.
Jacko Duvenhage, Jashua Thereon and Andre van Niekerk each took 2 wickets for PEOBCC.

Harno Badenhorst was the top runs scorer for PEOBCC, scoring 53 runs (including three 4’s) from 46 balls. He was named man of the match for his performance. Charl Wilson also added 26 runs (including two 4’s and one 6) from 24 balls.

Johan Potgieter and Helmut Mack each took two wickets for Sparta.

Match 3

Sparta II defeated Blue Waters II with 98 runs in a match played at Sparta.

Sparta won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring 206 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Blue Waters managed 108 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 runs.

Gerrie Snyman was the big hitter for Sparta with 82 runs (including 5 4’s and nine 6’s) from 30 balls. His performance earned him the man of the match award. Wimpie Martins also added 47 runs (including one 4 and five 6’s) from 32 balls.

Six Blue Waters bowlers managed to pocket one wicket each.

The best batsman for Blue Waters was Olange Nandjedi with 44 runs (including five 4’s and one 6) from 52 balls.

Robbie Berg and Pierre Le Roux each took 2 wickets for Sparta.

Sunday

Match 1

Blue Waters 1 defeated Sparta 1 with 37 runs in a Coastal T20 league match on Sunday.

Blue Waters scored 128 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs; Sparta replied with 91 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.

Sparta won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match played at the Sparta Recreational Club Grounds.

Blue Waters scored 128 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 8 wickets.

Kobus Burger was the top scoring batsman for Blue Waters, with 46 runs (including six 4’s and one 6) from 29 balls. Simon Shikongo also added 35 runs (including two 4’s and two 6’s) from 37 balls.

Johan Potgieter was the best performing bowler for Sparta with 4 wickets for 17 runs in 3 overs. He was also named man of the match. Herman Karsten also took three wickets for 15 runs in 4 overs.

Sparta 1 managed 91 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Johan Potgieter was the top batsman for Sparta 1, with 28 runs (including three 4’s and one 6) from 23 balls. Enrico van der Westhuizen added 22 runs (including two 4’s) from 30 balls.

John Calaca was in fine form for Blue Waters, dismantling Sparta’s attack with 4 wickets for 10 runs in 4 overs. Zhivago Groenewald also captured 2 wickets for 11 runs in 4 overs.

Match 2

PEOBCC I defeated PEOBCC II with 6 wickets in a match played at the Pro-ED grounds in Swakopmund.

PEOBCC II won the toss and opted to bat first scoring 99 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.

Andre van Niekerk was the top scoring batsman for PEOBCC with 37 runs (including three 4’s) from 35 balls.

Herman Van Zyl was the best bowler for PEOBCC I with 3 wickets for 6 runs in 3 overs. This performance also earned him the man of the match award. Erick Wilson also took 2 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs.

Marco Malan was the top run scorer for PEOBCC I with 48 runs (including one 4 and six 6’s) from 21 balls.

Kyle Saunders was the best bowler for PEOBCC II with 3 wickets for 21 runs from 3 overs.

Match 3

JCCA defeated Blue Waters II with 36 runs in a match played at the Walvis Bay Oval.

Blue Waters won the toss and elected to bowl first.

JCCA scored 148 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs.

The top performing batsman was Roelof Van Niekerk who smashed 73 runs (including two 4’s and seven 6’s) from 44 balls. This performance earned him the man of the match award.

Jeremia Shikongo was the best bowler for JCCA with 2 wickets for 7 runs from 4 overs.

Olange Nandjedi was the best batsman for Blue Waters with 18 runs (including one 4) from 19 balls.

Frans Fillipus was the top wicket taker for JCCA. He took 4 wickets for the 10 runs in 2.5 overs.

• PEOBCC 2 vs Blue Waters 2.
Both games start at 10:00.

The semi-finals of this year’s Coastal T20 are scheduled for 16 October, with the finals on the 17th.
