Two in a row for Johannes and Sack

Twenty five teams were in action and competed in various categories at the 6th edition of a very popular beach volleyball competition at the coast

Conrad Johannes and Jan-Eric Sack were crowned men’s division champions of the 6th edition of the Fabupharm Swakop Masters beach volleyball competition.

The duo pocketed the title for a second consecutive time by defeating Bernard Schurz and Stefanus Kangandjera 2-1 in the final at the Mole in Swakopmund earlier today.

Schurz and Kangandjera won the first set 21-12. Johannes and Sack however recovered and clinched the next two sets (21-14 and 15-10).

Kangandjera and Schurz defeated Panashe Chiguta and Mutasa Kudalewashe 2-0 (21-19; 21-13) in the first semi-final. Johannes and Sack defeated Danilo von Ludwiger and Andritio Böhringer 2-1 (20-22; 21-19 and 15-13) in the second semi-final.

Von Lidwiger and Böhringer defeated Chiguta and Kudalewashe 2-1 (21-10; 21-15 and 15-9) for the third place.

Social Division

Philip Schulz and Janice Lohmann clinched the social division of the tournament.

They defeated Rosi Hennes and Almut Hoffmann 2-0 (21-18; 21-15) in the final.

Hennes and Hoffmann defeated Marit Oestlund and Lotti Ertner 2-0 (20-12; 21-9) in the first semi-final. Schulz and Lohmann booked their place in the final with a 2-1 (21-12; 15-13 and 21-10) victory against Hanna Reusch and Kudzai Chiguta.

Reusch and Chiguta defeated Oestlund and Ertner 2-0 (21-16; 21-16) for the third place.

4-a-side Division

Vega II were crowned as champions of the 4-a-side section of the tournament. The winners defeated Smooth Operators 2-0 (23-21; 21-13) in the final match and finished the division that was contested on a round robin format with 15 points from five matches.

The runners-up Smooth Operators, finished on 12 points. Vega I finished in third position due to a superior goal difference. Vega I, BDO A and Silent Killers all had 6 points.

Twenty five teams competed in the tournament which produced 56 action packed games.

Organiser James Verrinder of Timeout Beach Volleyball Academy expressed his satisfaction with the event and thanked all athletes for their participation as well as the sponsors for their continued support.

Next up

The final beach volleyball competition (7th of the year) for 2019 will be the Bank Windhoek Volleyball Bash scheduled for 21 December in the vicinity of Dolphin Beach.

The 7th edition of this competition will accommodate experienced and social players with 4-A side and mixed teams competing.
