Swakopmund hosts municipal games

Team members took part in different sporting activities including athletics races, tug of war as well as darts on the day.

More than 200 staff members gathered for a fun-filled edition of the Swakopmund municipality in-house games at the Vineta Sports Field on Friday.

Speaking at the opening, Swakopmund mayor Nehemia Salomon said that the event helps improve the ethos among staff members.

“Sport has the power to motivate people to make positive changes in their lives and in the lives of others. Sport is linked with education and culture, as one of the building blocks of our society,” Salomon said.

He thanked the CEO of Swakopmund Alfeus Benjamin for developing the event.

“I would also like to thank each and every one of you for bringing different cultures together and promoting positive messages of peace, tranquillity, harmony and understanding. Let us appreciate this initiative and make it a culture. My hope is that this will yield positive results, not only our professional set up, but in our personal lives too,” Salomon said.

He also thanked the organising team for working tirelessly in recent weeks to ensure the success of the event.

Staff members were divided into teams competing under different colours, with athletes taking part in various sporting activities, included a 100m athletics races, tug of war and darts.

The White team eventually won the overall competition followed by the Blue team in second place.
