Elderly woman dies after being bumped by cyclist

An elderly woman died after she was allegedly bumped by a cyclist.

The incident occurred at the Omatjete village on Wednesday evening.

According to the commander of community affairs in the Erongo region, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, the woman who was identified as Lucrentia Katjizuko (67) was on her way home and busy crossing the road when she was bumped.

“She allegedly fell down, hit her head on the tarred road and sustained serious head injuries. She was transported to the Omaruru district hospital and subsequently succumbed to the injuries she sustained,” he said.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened.

Shapumba said that the cyclist, a 55-year-old man, has not been arrested due to a pending decision by the Prosecutor General.

The police investigation continues.
