The Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) hosts training and education courses from 17 September to 1 October.

Training will commence in Grootfontein and then move to Walvis Bay and Windhoek.

The training in Walvis Bay is scheduled for 24 and 25 September at a venue to be confirmed.

The match officiating level 1 (referee) course on 24 September starts at 18:30 until 21:00, and on 25 September from 08:00 to 13:00.

William Steenkamp, NRU development manager, said that he will be joined by three international World Rugby accredited trainers as course facilitators.

“After the level 1 (referee) course, you can referee any match. It only depends on the performance level of the specific referee where he or she will be appointed. You can go up to level 3,” he explained.

There is no limit to how many people can be accommodated at the courses.

“We want people as many as possible to pitch. There are no restrictions on attendance.”

Steenkamp added that for the level 1 course, anyone can register.

However: “For the educator course, the candidate must be in possession of a World Rugby Level 2 certificate.”

The courses in Grootfontein will focus on coach level 1 and match officiating level 1 (the same as in Walvis Bay).

The courses in Windhoek start on 27 September and run until 1 October. These will focus on the World Rugby educator course, first aid in rugby, strength and conditioning level 1, coach level 1 and match officiating level 1.

“We call on all interested parties to join us. There are no costs attached to the training courses,” Steenkamp concluded.
