“Groot Yster” is the first annual marketing campaign for Basic Photography, a media and entertainment company owned by Neal Phoré. Basic Photography was established in December 2018.
Phoré says the name “Groot Yster” signifies the raw Namibian vibe and gives it a local energy to help encourage males who look the part to apply to be part of something proudly Namibian.

“The “Groot Yster” campaign aims to use Namibian men in my marketing content to entice ladies whom are the ideal client. Basic Photography decided to shine the spotlight on men this time, as our clients are mostly women. We have an overflowing amount of marketing content with ladies but a lack of content that features only men,” Phoré explained. He said this is being done to market pricing, package options, photography styles and whatever else Basic Photography wants to promote through advertising. Basic Photography will either select one or three models, depending on how many people apply.

“Once we have identified our ideal model/s, we will have photoshoots, final edit the photos and then start using them either by December this year or early next year.” These adverts will run on the Basic Photography Facebook and Instagram social media platforms. This will be the only official campaign the models will be a part of. However, they may also be involved in exhibitions/showcases should Basic Photography decide to do so.

Those interested in participating do not need any previous modeling experience or exposure. Average, chubby or skinny body types are also encouraged to apply. Men with a medium to blemish-free facial skin are preferred and must be fluent in English. Shortlisted candidates should be in Windhoek for the selection process (one day) and selected models for the duration of the photoshoot (1 or 2 days) in Windhoek. Canditates should be 18 years old or older by 31 October.
