The Fish Eagle Rally hosted in Walvis Bay by the Playboys Motorcycle Club once again did not disappoint. The 20th edition of the rally saw about 350 bikers from 15 clubs participating. Bikers travelled from all over the country, South Africa and Zimbabwe to join in on the action.
The rally kicked off on Friday with the barrel rumble, where the bikers paid tribute to the bikers who had passed away. The same night the pretty faces of the rally was announced. Lili Steyn was crowned as Miss Fish Eagle, her first princess was Sjanni Theron and second princess was crowned as Amanda Kotze.
Saturday saw all the action happening, with a mass ride through town to the Diaz Circle where the annual bike drags took place.
On the drag strip, Edson Almeida once again clocked the fastest time of the day at 9.58 seconds.
In the Cruisers class, Pierre Sowden clocked the fastest time of 12.47 seconds, while in the 350 – 700CC class Johan Oosthuizen clocked the fastest time of 11.50 seconds.
Marius Hendricks clocked a time of 11.35 seconds in the 700 – 950CC class, while Julius Kotze clocked the best time of the day in the 950CC+ class, with a time of 9.62 seconds.
The Wheelie King of the day was Pierre Grobler, and the bravest biker of the rally was Kempen Claassens, who is racing for cancer, against cancer.
Much to the entertainment of the spectators, various biker games were also played during the course of Saturday. These games included the barrel roll, slow ride, walk the plank, tyre throw, and the exciting doughnuts and burnouts.
Burnout King was Janna Smit and Doughnut King was Ricky Nitschke. The Desert Mustangs was the best represented club.
The judges’ choice for the coolest bike was awarded to Lucian Martin from Swakopmund.
The biker who travelled the longest distance was Wallie du Toit who travelled 3240 kilometres.
The female biker who travelled the longest distance, as the pillion was Cythia Gibson, who travelled 2700 kilometres all the way from Zimbabwe.
The rally concluded on Sunday morning with a church service.
