Basketball legends heading for the coast

Basketball players from yesteryear will once again converge in Swakopmund to show off their skills and exhibit their passion for the game

Plans to host the second edition of the Old School 3x3 basketball tournament on 30 November 2019 at Swakopmund, Venita sports grounds are also taking shape.

The Windhoek based Choppers defeated Naughty Angels 12-13 and clinched the inaugural edition of the tournament hosted on 26 November at the same venue last year.

The tournament organized by Walvis Bay Whales Basketball Club is for all the veteran players (ballers) who played from 1990 strictly and will once again see teams of 6 players aged from above 35 competing.

The organisers have also due to popular demand added a new category for players aged between 20 to 34 years. Teams competing in this category should register 4 to 5 players.

Various prizes including trophies and medals for the winners are up for grabs.

The occasion serves as a reunion of all old school basketball players from clubs such as Walvis Bay Whales, Kings, Civics Suns, Mistakes, Tomahawks, Running Rebels, Dukes, Unam Bladez, Internationals, Polly Blues (NUST), Street House Temptation, Swakopmund Hornets and any other old school basketball clubs.

In addition to that the fun filled event creates support for and awareness about of the sport.

According to the organisers this edition of the tournament will also feature a number of invited players and teams from South Africa, Angola and probably Zimbabwe.

Community members are invited to join the players on this remarkable and historical journey of 3x3 basketball in the country. There will be a braai, jumping castle for kids, a Jacuzzi and DJ's entertaining everybody with old school beats on the day.
