This year’s World Oceans Day celebration will be hosted under the theme ‘Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean” on 10 June 2022 in Walvis Bay.

The mayor of Walvis Bay Trevino Forbes announced this at ordinary council meeting.

The General Assembly of the United Nations passed a resolution on 5 December 2008, officially recognizing 8 June as World Oceans Day. According to Trevino Forbes, Mayor of Walvis Bay, the celebration of the World Oceans Day seeks to remind and encourage the global community to take actions that contribute to a healthy ocean through conservation and protection.

“This day provides an opportunity for all global citizens to reflect on the benefits that we obtain from the ocean. It further reminds everyone that reducing pollution in all our waterways is a year-round commitment for which all humanity should take full responsibility. The celebration of this day is also an opportunity to promote public dialogue and knowledge on marine sciences and maritime affairs among school learners, the youth and the public,” Forbes said.
