Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila is in Lisbon, Portugal, to attend the 2022 United Nations Ocean Conference.

She is accompanied by fisheries minister Derek Klazen and Namibia’s ambassador to Portugal, France, Italy and Spain, Albertus Aochamub, as well as other government officials.

“The conference comes at a critical time as the world is seeking to address many of the deep-rooted challenges laid bare by the Covid-19 pandemic and which will require major structural transformations and common shared solutions that are anchored in the [United Nations] Sustainable Development Goals,” the Office of the Prime Minister stated yesterday. “To mobilise action, the conference will seek to propel much-needed science-based innovative solutions aimed at starting a new chapter of global ocean action.”

The prime minister is expected back home on 30 June.
