Crime report
A 17-year-old male was found hanging from a pole outside his home after being told to do house chores.The incident occurred after the deceased was asked by his mother to do the chores which included washing dishes, preparing food and staying in the house as it was already late.
The incident took place on the 28 October 2023 around 22:00 in the Hakahana location in Omaruru.
The deceased allegedly got angry after his mother finished cooking herself, he refused to eat and walked out of the house.
His body was discovered the next morning after his mother went to fetch water outside. She found him hanging with a rope from a pole.
No suicide note was found and the next of kin have been informed, while investigations continue.
In a separate incident, a 44-year-old suspected foreign national hanged himself with a rope in a ghetto where he was residing with his girlfriend. The incident took place on 28 October 2023 around 02:00 in Henties Bay.
Head of the community policing sub-division in the Erongo region, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, confirmed the incident saying it was reported that the deceased after returning home, was left in the kitchen by his girlfriend when she went to bed. Later on, she realised that he was not in bed yet, went to check up on him and discovered his body hanging from the roof of the ghetto's kitchen.
A state nurse declared him dead at the scene before the body was transported to Swakopmund State Hospital for further handling. The next of kin have not been informed yet, and investigations continue.
