Swakop man shoots himself with rifle

A 69-year-old man committed suicide by shooting himself with a hunting rifle in Swakopmund on Saturday.

The head of the community policing sub-division in the Erongo region, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, confirmed the incident which happened at around 16:35 in Ocean View.

Shapumba said it was alleged that the deceased shot himself with the hunting rifle once in the head.

"The deceased was staying alone at home. His daughter, who lives close by, responded after hearing the gunshot. She found her father's body outside with the rifle between his arms.

The deceased was identified as Christoffel Daniel Wilhelm Vorster, a former policeman. His next of kin have been informed.
