Fire claims life of pensioner

Self-made lamp might be the cause
A pensioner died in after a fire broke out in the zinc shack he was staying at Okarui Okape Villaege in Omatjete.

The police confirmed that the deceased, identified as Mathias Tjirimezumo (73), sustained 90-degree burn wounds to his body. His next of kin were informed.

The zinc house apparently caught fire and burnt to the ground with the deceased who was disabled and staying alone, trapped inside on Thursday night around 23:30. He was allegedly seen alive at around 20:00 the same day by a family member. He reportedly has been using a self made paraffin lamp and it is suspected that the lamp burst and caused the fire.
