Fighting leads to man's death

A 44-year-old male died on 20 October after a fight between him, his nephew, and his sister's boyfriend in Swakopmund.

A man (44) died after he was allegedly assaulted by his nephew and his sister's boyfriend.

The Erongo police regional commander for community affairs, inspector Ileni Shapumba, confirmed the incident which took place at a house in Independence Street, Mondesa, Swakopmund on Thursday evening.

Shapumba said that two suspects, both Namibian males aged 44 and 35, had been arrested in connection with the case.

According to Shapumba, the deceased, who was identified as Richard Goliath (44), was severely assaulted by his nephew and his sister's boyfriend during a visit to his sister. "The deceased and his girlfriend while visiting his sister, allegedly found his nephew and the boyfriend of his sister taking drugs (mandrax). After requesting to join, an argument erupted which culminated in a fight between the deceased and his nephew. "

The two fighting men were eventually separated by the sister's boyfriend. Another fight broke out later on. "The deceased and his sister's boyfriend started fighting. He was allegedly drunk, was overpowered and assaulted severely in the process."

The deceased complained of unbearable pain in the ribs and back as well as a severe headache on 5 October. "He eventually starting feeling better after taking painkillers. He and his brother departed to sea for work on 6 October with him still complaining about experiencing severe headaches."

oliath allegedly fell unconscious and was rushed to the Walvis Bay State Hospital on 13 October. "He was transferred to Katutura Intermediate Hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and was pronounced dead at 06:00 on 20 October."
