Correctional service employee commits suicide

The Erongo police unit commander for community affairs, inspector Ileni Shapumba has expressed concern about the spate of suicides occurring in the Erongo region.

"The sharp increase in suicides is very worrisome. Problems can be solved in other ways instead of opting to end your life. We encourage community members to seek interventions," Shapumba said via crime update.

His comments followed after a man committed suicide by hanging himself in Omaruru on Wednesday with two other suicides also reported this week in Swakopmund. The latest suicide incident occurred at LS Mahoto Correctional College. "The deceased Timoteus Angula Kadhila (35) who is an employee of the Namibian Correctional Service in Omaruru, used an electric extension cable and hanged himself. The next of kin of the deceased were informed. He did not leave a suicide note and no foul play is suspected."
