Nurse injured in ambulance accident

A nurse sustained injuries after a state ambulance travelling from Swakopmund, collided with a truck.

A state ambulance travelling between Arandis and Swakopmund collided with a truck on Wednesday. According to the Erongo police regional commander for community affairs, inspector Ileni Shapumba, Martha Shali, was driving from Swakopmund to Arandis with a state Ambulance reg no. GRN7787 on the B2 route. "Approximately 10 km from Arandis at about 22:04 she tried to evade a head on collision with an oncoming truck that was in the process of overtaking another truck. Shali crossed from the left lane into the right lane, which resulted in the ambulance getting hit on its passenger side by a Volvo truck (Reg. N215-741W), that was being overtaken." The driver of truck was alone and did not sustain any injuries. "The truck that allegedly caused the accident proceeded without stopping or the driver rendering assistance. The ambulance driver did not sustain any injuries, however, the passenger, nurse Fidelis Uises (29), sustain injuries on her forehead, and was taken to the state hospital in a stable condition."
