Second oldest newspaper turns 60

10 December 2018 | Local News

Namibia’s second oldest newspaper, the Namib Times, celebrated its 60th birthday on 5 December.

The first edition hit the streets of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay in 1958.

The founder of the newspaper was the late Paul Vincent, who was synonymous with the newspaper for more than 40 years.

The paper was initially published only on Fridays and first printed in Swakopmund. The printing operations later moved to Walvis Bay.

Due to ill health, Vincent sold the newspaper on 2 July 2002 to businessmen Desmond Frankfort and Dean Kock.

The newspaper acquired its very own printing machines in 1985 and from then to mid-2017 the publication was printed at the Namib Times’ head office in Sam Nujoma Avenue. Word Press Namibia in Windhoek took over the printing aspect from August 2017.

The Namib Times is now a bi-weekly publication.
