More than 100 prefects from various high schools attended this year’s prefects’ breakfast at the Walvis Bay town hall last week Friday.
Deputy mayor Penelope Martin-Louw officially opened the event.
The occasion serves as a leadership seminar for learners representative council (LRC) members from various schools.
Prefects from De Duine Secondary School, Kuisebmond Secondary School, Duinesig High School, Tutaleni High School and the International School of Walvis Bay attended the event.
The schools each introduced the members of their LRCs and gave short presentations of the success they had achieved thus far.
Participants are encouraged to become acquainted with one another, share project ideas, exchange leadership challenges or improvements, and strive to become better leaders at the event.
They also create networks among their respective LRCs, and collaborate on future projects.
The attendees were also educated on leadership qualities.
Social problems in society, such as rape, drug abuse, murder, alcohol abuse and bullying, were some of the issues identified to be addressed via various projects in the foreseeable future.
Junior mayor Caroline Jansen thanked all junior council members for their hard work.
