Portugal Day commemorated

Portuguese community members celebrated Portugal Day with a get-together at the Atlantic Hotel in Walvis Bay on 10 June. This date commemorates the death of Luís de Camões (10 June 1580), a significant figure in the history of Portugal. Over 200 Portuguese nationals and various guests convened for the event attended by ambassador Dr Fernando Araujo and comendador Manuel Coelho, the Namibian Portuguese representative. Araujo said the Portuguese community is well entrenched within the Namibian society, with strong ties existing between the two countries. The renowned Johannesburg based Portuguese singer Gina Martin provided some live entertainment. On the photo are some of the ladies who attended the event. Photo Contributed
