Heiko Zicker; Lions Club Swakopmund president; “I would like to strengthen our service,”

Swakopmund - Adolf Kaure

Heiko Zicker was elected at the new president of the Lions Club Swakopmund during the club's 60th anniversary celebration in Swakopmund recently.

Zicker, who has been a Lions member for the last nine years, said one of his goals involves recruiting and maintaining the existing Lions club members base.

“A very important issue for me as president is not only finding new members, but also keeping our existing members. This includes bringing back Lions members who discontinued their membership.”

He also elaborated on other envisaged goals in his first year of tenure as president of Lions Club Swakopmund.

“I would like to strengthen our existing services and the link to our international partners to ensure continued support for our on-going projects. New projects supporting the less fortunate members of the community must also be identified. The standing of our club also needs to be raised through effective publicity and awareness programmes.”

Zicker said his dream and prayer were that the Lions Club will transform possibilities and opportunities into stories of success and triumph at the end of his term.

He thanked the outgoing Lions Club Swakopmund president Max Schwieger for leading the club through a challenging time and re-emphasised the need for more members to join and serve their community wholeheartedly.

“Max took over the position as president in a very complicated time for the club. We as members are proud of the positive development of our club during his reign. The club has grown in many ways but we still need more Lions. This means more helping hands to serve the community and following the Lions’ motto of ‘We serve’.”

The event included an awards ceremony with awards handed out to Lions Club Swakopmund members who showed outstanding work during the year.
