‘n Plek waar jy die stilte kan hoor

Die eienaars van die Erongo Plateau-kampeerterrein het in Februarie 1998 dié unieke fasiliteit opgerig.

Die geharde kampeerders Oliver en Conny Kayser het 'n plek in die hartjie van die majestueuse Erongo-bergreeks op Conny se ouers se plaas Eileen naby Omaruru geïdentifiseer en besluit om 'n uitsonderlike kamp daar te bou.

Omaruru word beskou as die poort na Damaraland, waar jy die beroemde woestynolifante en antieke Himbastamme in die Kaokoveld vind.

Dit is ook binne gemaklike reisafstand van Swakopmund, Hentiesbaai, Twyfelfontein, Etosha en selfs die hoofstad, Windhoek.

Die Erongo Plateau-kamp is klein, afgesonder, troeteldiervriendelik en die perfekte plek om te ontspan. Besoeke streel die siel.

Baie moeite is gedoen om te verseker individuele kampeerplekke beskik oor genoeg privaatheid.

Daar is slegs vier kampeerplekke op die terrein. Gaste word dus aangeraai om vooraf te bespreek, veral vir lang naweke en skoolvakansies.

Oliver en Conny is passievol oor die natuur en het derhalwe die kamp so aangepas dat dit op ’n ekovriendelike wyse bestuur kan word.

"Daar is doelbewus geen swembad nie, want ons woon in 'n droë land waar waterbesparing van die allergrootste belang is. Die water wat ons benut, word 'n paar kilometer van die kamp gepomp. Ons het geen elektrisiteit en ook nie ‘n winkel nie. Gaste moet dus hul eie kampeertoerusting en kos bring. Kuideniersware kan in Omaruru, sowat 35 km van die kampterrein af, verkry word."

Die waterpunt is geleë aan die onderkant van die kampeerplekke en kan sommer vanuit die gerief van 'n kampeerstoel met ‘n verkyker verken word.

Die gebied is bekend vir sy bergsebras. Daar is ook gemsbokke, koedoes, steenbokke en Damara dik-dikke te siene. Snags kan kampeerders luister na die geluide van hiënas, jakkalse en luiperds of selfs die geroep van uile.

Die skoon, troeteldiervriendelike kampeerterrein is toegerus met storte (warm en koue water), toilette, braaiplekke en genoeg skuduwee.

Elke kampeerterrein het ook sy eie watervoorsiening.

Hout mag nie in die omgewing gekap word nie, maar kan by die kampterrein verkry word.

Diegene wat verkies om nie te loop nie, kan verkenningstogte per voertuig geniet en vir die meer avontuurlustiges is daar staproetes in die berg.

Tariewe beloop N$150 per volwassene per nag, en kinders tussen die ouderdomme 6 en 11 betaal N$100. Kinders jonger as 6 jaar bly gratis.
