Members of the Maranatha congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran church of the Republic of Namibia raised N$100 000 for the church in Narraville.

Ten debutants jointly contributed over N$88 650, with members of the parish and those in attendance adding N$11 350 in pledges during the first-ever debutante ball and dance held in the history of the church on Friday.

Lizzy Strauss was named Miss Debutante after she raised N$20 100 during the crowning ceremony with Swingers Band entertaining those in attendance.

Her first princess, Sanchia Beukes, raised N$19 000 and the second princess, Elmarine Strauss, raised N$12 450.

The fundraising event formed part of the 50th year of existence celebrations of the church building in Narraville which concluded with a march through the streets and a sports day at the rugby stadium.

Parish pastor, Mark Beukes, labelled the effort and festivities a huge success.

He thanked the community and sponsors for their support and said the funds raised will be used to the benefit of the church.
