Brian Goreseb; Father; Fatherhood has taught me to be more caring and being unselfish.

Swakopmund - Adolf Kaure

A local father of three, Brian Goreseb, says he has learned a lot since becoming a father.

With Father’s Day on June 16 approaching, Goreseb told Erongo that his whole perspective on life changed after he became the father of two sons, Zaynodine (10) and Bryan (7), as well as a daughter, Brialynn (7months).

“Fatherhood has taught me to be more caring and unselfish. These days I don’t care about what society thinks or say. My first priority is my children and being their role model.”

Goreseb (31), who lives in Swakopmund, is employed at Swakop Uranium as a laboratory operator.

He says he will spend the first part of Father’s Day at home with his kids. “Family time is important for me. I work shifts and will be going to work at 2 o’clock that afternoon.”

Fathers across the world will be expecting to be spoiled by loved ones on the day which is a celebration of fatherhood, honouring fathers, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers in society.

Father’s Day has been celebrated on March 19 (Saint Joseph's Day) since the middle ages in Europe.

This celebration was brought to Latin America by the Spanish and Portuguese, where March 19 is often still used for it. Many countries in Europe, Africa and the Americas have since then adopted the date of Father’s Day in the United States, which is the third Sunday of June.

It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in March, April and June.

It complements similar celebrations honouring family members, such as Mother’s Day, Siblings Day and Grandparents’ Day.
