Three Swakopmund residents will receive assistance from the Swakopmund municipality to renovate their houses in Moshitila Street in Mondesa which were destroyed by a fire in June.
The management committee approved applications for assistance from Fransiska Tjitandi, for building material to renovate the entire house at a cost of N$36 118; Julius Kahengo, for building material to renovate two bedrooms at a cost of N$29 284; and Teemus Kapembe, for building material for the renovation of one bedroom at a cost of N$1 656.
“The fire victims received assistance in the form of food hampers from the fire brigade division. They also received various donations such as clothing, blankets and tents from other institutions and community members. However, they are urgently in need of building material to renovate their houses as they currently sleep in tents,” said Swakopmund mayor Paulina Nashilundo.
The affected parties also applied for assistance for donations of buildings materials from the mayoral development fund (MDF).
Their requests are, however, outside the scope of the MDF criteria and could not be considered. It was thus recommended that the requests be submitted to the management committee for consideration.
Each fire victim sourced three different quotations from various suppliers. The cheapest amount of costs to be incurred to renovate the three houses amounts to N$67 060. Payment will be made directly to the suppliers.
The general manager of finance at the municipality is expected to source the funds for the payment.
