Grumpy’s fishing report
29 April 2019 | Fishing
The Easter weekend greeted us with colder weather and resulted in the presence of galjoen, as well as few kob and some blacktail in the mix.
This was the case especially on Sunday when the water picked up a bit.
Areas that produced were Long Beach, Vierkantklip, Salt Pans, Mile 13, Bennie se Rooi Lorrie, Grys Duintjie and Trappies.
Reports of the odd steenbras caught were also received. Maketu’s Turn was the place to be.
Some big kob were also reeled in at Horingbaai.
Oom Heinz Bressele from Hentiesbaai caught a nice steenbras with a weight of 5.7 kg on white mussel.
Pieter de Bruyn caught a huge blacktail of 48 cm with a weight of 2.1 kg at Long Beach.
Eben Petersen was also fishing at Long Beach and caught a massive galjoen of 1.9 kg.
Clinton Barnard from Swakopmund threw some sardines as bait at Wlotzkasbaken and was rewarded with his supper which consisted of a nice sized kob.
Further up north, Niekie Rossouw got stuck into a backbreaking tussle with a huge spotted gully shark just south of St. Nowhere. The beauty was quickly released again.
The spotties (spotted gully sharks) and also the smaller spiny dogfish along with St. Josephs where also in abundance. Watch out for the spikes on the latter two species. They can result in some pain and you might have to seek medical attention.
It seems that the fish are biting all over. The conditions for the week also appear to be great.
Tight lines till next time.
