Grumpy's fishing report
01 March 2019 | Fishing
The fish were biting at a frantic pace from Paaltjies right up to the Winston.
There were, however, a few areas that didn't produce. Anglers, however, always see the positive side to spending another day next to the ocean.
Steenbras and blacktail were caught at Paaltjies which is closed for kob fishing until the end of March.
Vierkantklip produced plenty kob and blacktail with the odd sand shark and barbell caught in between.
Those fishing for shark did very well between Mile 17 and Wlotzkasbaken with mostly big bronze whaler sharks caught.
The anglers I talked to informed me the best bait was bonito and yellowtail for these beasts.
Mile 68 also rendered some catches and so did Mile 72.
The winning or rather producing spots for the past week was up north with Doep se Gat, Bakleigat and Horingbaai doing extremely well.
Huge kob were caught in the 5 to 18 kg weight range. All good fish for sure.
There are also a few upcoming fishing events with the biggest being this weekend's interclub taking place at Mile 8.
Results will be provided. Watch this space. A friendly fishing competition between two football clubs namely SFC (Swakopmund) and SKW (Windhoek) will take place at month end at Mile 108. This will definitely be fun.
Conditions for casting lines have been super good lately and we are actually looking forward to this weekend's swell.
Galjoen might just show up close to Swakopmund.
Don't abandon your favourite fishing spots just yet. The ocean cleans itself quite well during high seas and gives new opportunities for sure.
Also remember to keep the areas where you fish clean.
Until next time.
