Golf tournament held for local schools

The Namibia Junior Golf Foundation awarded Willie Els as the player of the year.

The Coastal Junior Open recently took place at the Rossmund Golf Course in Swakopmund.

Willie Els, from Walvis Bay Private School, was crowned as the overall winner. He was also announced as the player of the year.

Erastus Ndakalako was awarded as the overall nett winner, Jonothan Mather as the A division gross winner, Charlie Lehmann as the A division nett winner, Theuns Alberts as the B division gross winner and Emile Vilbert as the B division nett winner.

During the Final School Golf League various schools from across Namibia competed against each other. The results are as follows:

A division:

1st place was awarded to Willie Els and Emile Vilbert from Walvis Bay Private High School, second place was awarded to Jonothan Mather and Theuns Albert also from Walvis Bay High School, and Janneman Brand from Windhoek Gymnasium received third place.

B division:

Erastus Nadakalaka from Otjikoto received first place followed by Henry Mudge from Tsumeb Gymnasium in second place and Todd Parker from St Paul’s College in third.

C Division:

Conner Gibson from the International School of Walvis Bay received first place, followed by Alejandro Gilmer from Pro-Ed Academy in second place and Mafela Shumkala from Immanuel Ruiters Primary School in third place.

D Division:

Bradley Gawanab and Pable Gawanab from Kuisebmond Primary School shared first place, followed by Vigo Kotze from Pro-Ed Academy in second and Kian Engelbrecht from Pionierspark Primary School in third place.

In addition, the Namibia Junior Golf Foundation selected a team of eight players to participate in a training camp during December 2018 in George with top South African trainer Val Holland. The team consists of Willie Els, Cilliers Sachse, Jonothan Mather, Charlie Lohmann, Janneman Brand, Erastus Ndakalako, Theuns Alberts and Wayne Profitt. Junior golf coach Jaco van Reenen and Gert Olivier will travel with the team.

Furthermore, the various winners of the Namibia Junior Golf Foundation local tournaments are as follows:

Omeya Junior Open - Marthinus Marais from Walvis Bay

Rossmund Junior Open - Damain da Silva

Tsumeb Junior Open - Damain da Silva

Swakopmund Junior Open - Winner Willie Els

Namibia Junior Open - Winner Wilie Els

Tsumeb Junior Open - Charlie Lohmann

Coastal Junior Open - Willie Els

In international tournaments, Henco Rieckert, Marthinus Marais, Janneman Brand and Cilliers Sachse represented Namibia in the All African Junior Championships. Willie Else represented Namibia in July at the British Junior Open host tournament hosted by St Andrews, Scotland.

The junior golf tournaments will kick off again in January 2019, with the first tournament at the coast taking place on 16 and 17 February 2019 at the Rossmund Golf Club.
