Fight for financial freedom

The Namibian economy is currently in a recession and it is a reflection of what is going on all over the world.

Many graduates are still jobless, sitting at home with their degrees, as various companies are attempting to cut costs by keeping their staff capacity limited.

In these tough times even those who have employment are ‘feeling the pinch’ as the cost of living keeps getting higher.

Inflation is sky high and the fuel pump prices keep increasing every month which further impacts on the prices of food and other commodities.

Salaries are not increasing at the same rate as inflation, with companies having to retrench workers in order to control operational costs.

It is a sad reality which needs serious attention as the only way the middle class can survive is by buying things on hire purchase or taking personal loans from the banks.

A mitigating option for graduates who are sitting at home is to become an entrepreneur. Find out what the market needs and put out a good product or service in order to put bread on the table.

We have reached the age where we are required to not only seek employment but be able to create employment for others so that this high youth unemployment rate can decrease.

Many people who have office jobs have to look at options of using their talents to make extra money. You can freelance as a photographer or do something on the side.

It is quite clear that depending on one income can be problematic as sometimes that income cannot provide for all the needs and expenses that arise.

We also need to be willing to learn new skills. There are workshops that one can sign up for to that teach on various topics.

We also need to be willing to teach others skills so that we can fight this vicious cycle of debt and unemployment.

Every cent helps in these tough economic times. We need to know the difference between wants and needs. There also has to be a level of contentment that allows us not to try and live above our means, compare ourselves with others and buy things which put us further into debt.

We can for example save money by walking short distances instead of paying a taxi, or taking food to work instead of buying take-aways.

The battle for economic emancipation is here and every person should use wisdom in order to prevail and win. Every person should empower himself to survive in these difficult times.
