Bowls off to a flying start

11 February 2019 | Sports

The Namib Park Bowling Club held its first competition of the year in preparation for National Bowls League which started yesterday at Namib Park in Walvis Bay.

The hosts will take on Rossmund Bowling Club from Swakopmund over two weeks in the men and ladies triples format for the Erongo regional crown. Rossmund will play host to the second weekend on 23 and 24 February. The two top teams will play off against the three top teams from the Khomas regions in the national finals.

The past weekend Namib Park played the selected men’s and ladies’ pairs and it was a very competitive event, held on Saturday and Sunday.

The ladies competition was won by Monika Gibbons and sister in-law Debbie Gibbons, being victorious in all their games. Second place was awarded to Elza von Mollendorff and Elzaan de Vries.

The men’s section was down to the last game to see who would win on shot difference as three teams had each lost one game.

Dave Gibbons and Poena Olivier were left sitting on the sideline to see if the team Steven Peak and Kobus von Mollendorff or Johanes (Jessie) Jesaya and Ronan Olivier could overtake them.

The eventual winners were Gibbons and Poena Olivier, with Jesaya and Ronan Olivier as runners-up.
