In dié tyd het die vrou, die eienares van die huis, se seuntjie siek geword. Hy het al hoe sieker geword totdat hy die laaste asem uitgeblaas het.

Toe sê sy vir Elia: “Kyk wat het u my aangedoen, man van God! Het u na my toe gekom om my sonde aan die lig te bring en my seuntjie daarom te laat doodgaan?”

Hy sê vir haar: “Gee jou kind hier,” en hy tel hom van haar skoot af op. Toe dra hy hom na die bokamer toe waar hy tuis gegaan het en lê hom op die bed neer en bid tot die Here: “Here my God, wil U nou oor hierdie weduwee by wie ek bly, 'n ramp bring deur haar kind te laat sterf?”

Toe gaan lê hy drie maal bo-oor die kind en smeek die Here: “Here my God, laat die lewe tog terugkom in die kind.”

Die Here het Elia se gebed verhoor: die lewe het teruggekom, die kind het gelewe.
