Adolf Kaure - Nashville Investments expressed its gratitude to the sponsors of the 2018 Swakopmund SME mini expo with a thank you lunch and awarded them with appreciation certificates on the occasion at the Hafeni Traditional Restaurant in Walvis Bay.

Deputy mayor Penelope Martin-Louw said that SMEs are great contributors of the gross domestic product of the country and events like the Swakopmund SME mini expo help it.

Martin-Louw also expressed gratitude on behalf of mayor Immanuel Wilfred to exhibitors, sponsors and Nashville Investments for an event that created market choice and provided people with an opportunity to come together.

Special advisor of the governor of the Erongo region Adelheid Kandjala echoed Martin-Louw’s sentiments that SMEs are linked to economic growth.

“Big businesses all started as SMEs. The sector is made possible by the ability of the people to recognise opportunities and create products in order to earn income. Their unrealised potential for growth make SMEs critical for our country’s economic future.”

Kandjala added that the Swakopmund SME mini expo indeed brings the community together, allows for networking opportunities, creates exposure in terms of marketing, improves businesses and management capabilities through networking, and generates transactions.

She called for enhanced communication between SMEs and the government in order to promote a culture of creativity and innovation.

Thomas Aipanda, the co-founder of an SME called Intercity, an app which makes it easy to travel in the country, said that the youth deserve to be given opportunities as their innovation through SMEs can uplift tough economic times.

Aipanda said businessmen are there to make money while entrepreneurs are there to create innovation in order to improve the livelihood of others and in the long run make money.

“Let us give young people a chance as they can get us out of this never ending difficult economic times with their energy and the skills. Corporates should sponsor young entrepreneurs and we also need to allow young people to serve in top positions on the boards of directors, for example.”

Nangula Nashandi, the owner of Nashville Investments, the company which organised the 2018 Swakopmund mini expo, also officially launched the 2019 Fish Omwenyo Seafood Festival which will take place from 26 to 29 June in Walvis Bay under the slogan “Bringing you closer to home”.

“Namibia is the third highest exporter of fish in the world but we don’t appreciate our fish. The fish festival will consist of stalls, fish conferences, fish cooking demonstrations and competitions. We need all the sponsors and stakeholders, as well as all exhibitors to come and showcase their products.” She urged sponsors to give funds not for the sake of sponsoring but to do so with the aim of making a difference in the livelihood of others.
