Kenyan born Namibian based hip hop artist Kamaaizemi Hoveka, better known as KP Illest, will perform at the Fight Night Exhibition taking place at the Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre on 16 February.

The artist told Erongo that he was looking forward to performing at the tournament.

"The late Catty Cat brought me to Swakopmund and it was lit. I used to do combat sport myself, so I am excited to perform at this event."

The rapper, who won the 2018 Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) best hip hop award, is currently signed under the Mshasho record label.

The 26-year-old produces a unique form of music. It is a fusion of old school lyricism and witty wordplay combined with a fusion of jazz and blues, and modern day hip-hop.

Kp Illest started his rap career in 2008 and he got his big break in 2011 after winning the Sprite Urban Expression rap competition which resulted in him being awarded an all-expenses paid trip to the United Kingdom and an opportunity to open up for the Black Eyed Peas at the Wireless Festival.

In 2013 he released his debut mixtape titled “Kill Your Television Volume 1”, which saw him become Hype Magazine SA’s hottest newcomer of 2013, as well as being named Namibia’s most promising young hip hop artist.

In 2014 he released his first studio EP, titled “Memoirs of a Dreamer”, which was the first fusion of jazz and hip hop that Namibia had heard of.

His next piece of art, “Memoirs of a Dreamer”, was also the first Namibian hip hop compilation to be made available on international digital stores, and was the number one hip hop album on iTunes for two weeks.

In the same year (2015) he released his third mixtape, “Kill Your Television Volume 3”, which was nominated at the NAMAs 2016 and won the award for best song with a message, along with a nomination for best hip hop 2016.

Fight Night Exhibition will see a number of boxing fights which will include local boxers Albinius “Danny Boy” Felesianu, as well as Abraham “Energy” Ndaendapo.
